Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to compare the wear characteristics and microstructure of reused IPS Empress ceramic ingot. IFS Empress ceramic specimens were obtained from a single pressing, a double pressing and a triple pressing. Ten specimens from each group were abraded against human er}amel of extracted incisors for 160,000 cycles on the wear ?testing machine. The amount of wear was measured with a micrometer(PB-IB, Mitutoyo Co. Japan). The microstructures of each group were observed with a scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows ; 1. The wear of reused IPS Empress ceramic specimens after 160,000 cycles was the highest in the triple pressing specimen(326.3io), followed by the single(265.9pm) and the double pressing specimen(262.7pm)(p<0.05). 2. The significant crystal dispersion and the microcracks inside of the leucite crystal and the glass matrix with crack growth were observed in reused IFS Empress ceramics.
